I think of something/someone being not "normal", usually in a bad way

I find it to be offensive by the way it's used. People use it as an insult or use it to categorize people. Words are just words until there is some sort of meaning behind it and society chose to make it derogatory.

people just throw the word around now whether it be using it as a derogatory term or just to say that something is strange.

As someone in the LGBT+ community, queer to me shows a political identity. A lot of my brothers and sisters use it as a political statement, defying the 'normalcy' of gender and sexuality and replacing it with their own. Being 'queer' is not controllable by the minority in terms of being called 'queer' or fitting into that category. In result, many members of the LGBT+ community use that as a way to take back their power as a community instead of submitting to prejudice.

I dont know the exact definition but ive heard it defines people that neither identify as male nor female and choose to be neitherby ideology even though they obviously are only really one of the two.

In my own experiences, whenever I hear someone say the word queer they are referring to someone that is "strange" or not being like everyone else, ultimately offending that person. People refer to gay people as "queer" because they are "strange" for not liking the same gender, in some peoples opinion. -16, female, jewish

It's very general, and in today's age, it isn't towards homosexuality, it means stupid, or strange, or anything of the such. Queer is a broad term and it may offend some people.
