gay couples want to marry so that they can take their relationship to the next level. same reason why anyone else would want to get married. They fight for the right to be married for 1, or both of these 2 reasons: they really love each other, or they want to have equal rights with straight couples.

Gay couples are not any different from straight couples. They are people, and people who love each other want to get married because it's a beautiful celebration with their friends and family, and commitment for a lifetime. Gay people in particular should be speaking about about their right to get married, however, because by not having the right to be married they lack 1,138 federal rights that straight couples can get easily. They are not able to visit their loved one by their death bed, they are not able to be their next of kin, they are not able to get married to their loved one in order to grant them citizenship, many cannot adopt, they are not allowed to file a tax return (and get benefits from this) and much, much more.

Why do straight couples want to get married? It's the exact same thing only with different genders. Love is love and people shouldn't be penalized because they like a different gender than the "norm." Gay people want to get married because they are in love with their partner, and would like to take the next step in their relationship. Simple as that. -16, female, jewish

Let's just start with this, I am gay, so I can go on forever, but I'll keep it short. Being gay, black, white, poor or rich, we are still people, people full of love and ideas. Being gay, I am tired of being treated like a second class citizen, I shouldn't be denied when asking to make my love official. If straight marriage was deemed illegal, everyone would throw a hissy fit, "you're taking away my rights" etc etc. The same thing is happening to people of the LGBTQ community, we are still people, but we're not being treated like one.
