In terms of anatomy, it's having a penis. It's mostly physical characteristics that separate men and women, males have more testosterone, are usually more physically built, and of course have the male anatomy.

in terms of anatomy, to be male, is to have a penis. people usually will say be a man. man meaning that you have to be tough, pretty much emotionless and impervious.
