I think it means what you are born with. It doesn't define you or your characteristics, it is just identification.

Gender, to me, is how you view yourself, not by the anatomy you were given or the stigma you were given at birth. It's not about having male or female parts, but how you feel on the inside, how you see yourself.

How you view yourself in terms of expression and internal instinct, whether that be male or female, agender, gender fluid, or presenting multiple genders at once. Gender may or may not correspond to the sex you were born into, which is classified by anatomy.

It's what you define yourself as, you say you're a boy, even with boobs. It's what the person identifies as.
